Are Producers viable?

Hello guys!

So, I had played AO years ago, reached level 100 with a Swordsman and stopped playing after that because my equips and itens didn't matched my level and what I needed to do to continue progressing. So either I would quit or spend $$$ to continue playing.

I always wanted to have a producer though, to craft weapons or armors for me, I like this "armor smith" or "weapon smith" idea, just for the gameplay and stuff.

However, I know that I'll need to invest quite some time on a producer so he can be helpful or worthy, so my question is:

Is it a good idea to have a producer? If it is, what producer would you recommend for someone that want to focus on gold and itens farming on the beginning?

I want to farm so I can fully equip a main character, a Swordsman or a hybrid class that envolves melee to focus on PVE/PVP.
